When I decided to collaborate with young artists, OKO was the first one that popped into my mind. I was familiar with her work so far, but when I began to dig deeper, reading her interviews and putting them into the context of her work, I got the impression of an artist I hadn’t met yet, but I wanted to come up to.
To be honest, I was a bit reluctant. The energy her work was radiating and the words I had read made me a little apprehensive about meeting her. I expected a sassy girl from the streets who needs to be approached with care as to avoid rejection. However, what I learned soon, took me by surprise. We met up in Berislavićeva Street, at a café where she was a regular. I came by bike, breathless and already regretting for showing up so unprepared.
Yet she turned out to be one of the friendliest people I had met. It was precisely how the great OKO proves her greatness. At the same time I felt incredible energy and love radiating from her. On the other hand, it doesn’t make her any less strong. She is strong. She is perhaps one of the strongest people I know.
Behind the great woman and artist, with warmth in her voice, there is this great and level-headed person who knows exactly what she wants and no one can take it away from her. OKO follows her own path that she has set as precisely as the strokes of her brush which she doesn’t use as much. She’s not a quitter.
